I've met people...

... who never stop smiling
... who make you laugh
... who are always there for you
... who help you as quickly and efficiently as they can
... who believe in you and tell you never to give up
... who are excellent wheelchair drivers racers
... who are amazing at what they do
... who always mind their business
... who kick your arse when you need an arse-kicker
... who stay positive even in the worst situations
... who are excellent huggers
... who always make sure their fridge is full before you come visit
... who are so great that their greatness is contagious

Uh uh...those summer nights

Lots of things have been happening lately, the most important two are probably flat hunting and a conference on raw veganism (which I am going to write about when I am a bit more awake but have a look at http://www.therawadvantage.com/ if you want to get an idea). I have also been working quite a bit (short translations but quite a few of them). I like working late at night, when the world calms down: no noise coming from the neighbours in the flat above me, no kids playing in the garden, no calls, no emails...The only sound I can here is that of my noisy clock, as if it wanted to remind me that I should hurry up all the same. Work makes me stay at home a lot. On some days I don't go out at all, but I wouldn't recommend doing that for too many days in a row if you want to avoid feeling like an alien that has just landed on Earth (that's how I felt today when I decided it was time to interrupt my solitary confinement and go to the cafe for a quick coffee after lunch). The good thing about working late at night (without wasting time on Facebook and the like) is that you get to fully appreciate summer nights. The fresh breeze, the sound of crickets and, if you are really lucky, an amazing full moon. Tonight is one of those nights. As soon as I realised it was full moon, I dashed outside and wasn't satisfied until I found the perfect spot to look at it while getting lost in thought. I have to say I felt like an idiot at first and for a second I even thought of taking a picture of it to justify my unusual behaviour... but let's be honest: no picture will ever do justice to the beauty of a full moon on a summer night.

It brought back to my mind two wonderful poems which I still know off by heart from school.

Noč trudna
molči,
nezamudna
beži
čez mestni trg luna sanjava.
Vse v mraku
mirnó,
na vodnjaku
samó
tih vetrc z vodoj poigrava.

Vodice
šumé
in rosice
pršé
brez konca v broneno kotanjo;
brezdanj je
ta vir,
šepetanje,
nemir,
brezkončna, kot misli so nanjo.

Pa blizi
ni cest,
ah, v Elizij
do zvezd
ne morete kaplje šumeče.
In smele
željé
do Angele
mojé
hitite zaman hrepeneče ...

Noč trudna
molči,
nezamudna
beži
čez mestni trg luna sanjava,
ki ruši
pokoj
moji duši
nocoj,
brezskrbno pa deklica spava.

(D. Kette)

Luna sije,
kladvo bije
trudne, pozne ure že;
préd neznane
srčne rane
meni spati ne pusté.
